I’ve been hanging a lot of pictures in Park Slope and Carroll Gardens this week. Here is a nice photo I hung and a large mirror I hung as well.
My sister wanted a new mirror installed, so I came over and put the mirror in, and we videotaped the process for a Gardenfork episode. The original mirror had been glued to the wall, and Mirrors that are glued onto the wall can be difficult to remove, as removing them tears up the wall. The [...]
My sister wanted a new mirror installed, so I came over and put the mirror in, and we videotaped the process for a Gardenfork episode. The original mirror had been glued to the wall, and Mirrors that are glued onto the wall can be difficult to remove, as removing them tears up the wall. The new mirror was larger than the mirror I removed, so it covered up the damage parts of the wall.
I installed a new light fixture, centered over the mirror, after I took this picture.
Many browstones have central air conditioners installed in enclosed spaces within the building. This unit was leaking water onto the desk situated below it. A quick look showed the condesate pump had failed, and I installed a new one.
Brownstone basements usually have poor lighting. Using new fluorescent fixtures, I added electrical outlets to the ceiling of the basement, installed new lights, and now the owners can see what they are doing in the basement.
The bump out extension roof of this brownstone overflowed in heavy rains. The internal roof drain could not handle the amount of water coming down off the main roof, so a large amount of water ran off the of the bump out roof. The bump out extension roof of this brownstone overflowed in heavy rains. The internal roof drain could not handle the amount of water coming down off the main roof, so a large amount of water ran off the of the bump out roof. This overflow would flood the bump out extension room, and then leak into the basement.
I installed a rain gutter to catch the overflow water, and diverted it into the garden area, to water the plants. This was a much simpler, cleaner solution than having to cut open the roof and re-plumb the internal drain pipes.

This wall and ceiling were damaged from a roof leak. [ i can do spot roof repairs ] After the leak was fixed, the damaged wall and ceiling was removed, and the area allowed to dry out. Fiberglass mesh was then applied to the damaged areas, and spackle was applied in several layers. This type of repair takes several days, as you have to let each layer of spackle dry before applying the next layer.
Repairs like this are difficult to make look perfect, as the building settles, the walls are not square and true, and there is difference between the texture of the original wall and the repaired area.
