Park Slope Painters and Skim Coating in Brooklyn

Here is a Park Slope Brooklyn brownstone where we did wallpaper removal and skim coating. The walls had old 70s era wallpaper and deep cracks in them. We are excellent at removing wallpaper, and plaster wall repair, and skim coating damaged walls. This brownstone parlor had nice built in shelves on one side, which the new owner wanted to keep, so we painted them the same color as the walls, a Ben Moore Natura No VOC Linen White. We excel at using the new green No VOC paints, and avoid regular VOC paint as much as possible.

The hardwood floors were already in good shape, so we covered the floors with tarps and rosin paper to protect them. We did some ceiling repair, then moved on to removing the wallpaper , doing plaster repair, and skim coating the walls. Whenever I look at a job, when I see wallpaper, it tells me that there is plaster damage underneath. Wallpaper seems to be a quick fix for wall damage, but I’ve seen walls that crumble from behind the wallpaper.

After removing the wallpaper, the wall has to be sealed and then plaster repairs are done, after the skim coat is applied, a light sanding happens, then several coats of primer go on before the painting of the top color. Don’t skip out on the primer, as skim coated walls suck up paint.

Park Slope No VOC Painting a 2 BR

Here is a job us painters did in Park Slope ( where I live ) in a 2 bedroom coop apartment. We used the green no VOC Benjamin Moore Natura paints, we were painting for some very pregnant people. They chose the Ben Moore Calm as the main color for the kitchen – living room, and it works really well. we felt calm after painting it, and the clients were very happy with the paint choices. We did put up some test patches of colors for them to look at while we prepped the rooms for painting, and they thought about it while we patched and repaired the walls and sheetrock before the paint job. The wood floors were in good shape, so no need to sand them, and the final topcoats of paint made it all look great.

The nursery was painted in a happy pink No VOC color from the Ben Moore Natura line as well. Pink colors can sometimes verge into purple, so the clients went with a brighter warmer pink for the baby’s nursery.

The master bedroom was an earth tone grey-green, a change from the white and pink of the other rooms. We painted the bathrooms Chantilly White in eggshell.

Prospect Heights Painters

Here are some photos from a painting job we did in Prospect Heights. The client wanted an accent wall, between the kitchen and living room, and the client selected this orange red color. The photo doesn’t represent the color exactly, but they liked it, as they are Mets fans. We also painted two bedrooms, a nursery and an office with No VOC Benjamin Moore Natura. Skim Coat and Plaster Painting on 8th Avenue

We worked on a one bedroom coop that had a lot of water damage from leaks and the radiators. We did some skim coat work and plaster work to repair the walls. Here are some photos of the skim coat and plaster work, we, the painters in park slope and prospect heights, did.

Ikea Kitchen Installation in Park Slope

If you are looking for a Brooklyn Ikea Kitchen Installer, here we are. Here we tore out the old metal cabinet and sink, installed a new set of cabinets and more. Opposite this cabinet is an Ikea Kitchen island with a butcher block top.

5th Avenue Coop Painting

Here’s an apartment in a coop we painted. The kid’s room was painted really bright deep colors – kid colors – and whenever we paint a room like this we always apply a tinted primer as a base coat. This tinted primer coat keeps the bright colors from bleeding thru the topcoats we will apply later.

Now, if I had a brain, I would have remembered to take the “After” photos of this job, but you know….

I did want to show you all what is involved in doing a good paint job, it takes time ( read: money ) . If you were to just roll some paint on top of these deep and bright colors, you’d be there all day and use a ton of paint, and it wouldn’t look good. Call us, you’ll see the difference.

Painters in Park Slope go Green

I recently decided that we’re only going to use low-VOC or no-VOC paints. We’ve been using the Benjamin Moore Natura and Allura lines of paint almost exclusively, and we don’t have headaches anymore.

Previous to using the Ben Moore paints, we would wear masks all day, and now we don’t have to. Nice.

In a recent NY Times article, Stephen Treffinger reviewed low and no VOC paints, and had this to say about Benjamin Moore:

Benjamin Moore’s Natura zero-V.O.C. paint can be tinted more than 3,000 shades — the most of any paint here — and it went on the smoothest. Its smell was mild and a bit fruity, the most paint-like of any here, and it had a soft sheen, slightly less matte than the two above. It cleaned up better than the more expensive brands (although the fingerprints never completely disappeared), and it easily covered the ink marks.

Painting in Kensington, Brooklyn

HDTV Mount Installation on a Brooklyn Plaster Concrete Brick wall

I got a call from a client who had just bought a new HDTV and wanted to use a TV mount to hang it on an outer wall of his apartment ( the common wall is the wall that two adjoining buidlings share ). He asked me if it was easy enough for him to just go buy a stud finder and hang the HDTV mount himself.

I said no.

Why? The common walls of Brownstone, Limestone, Queen Ann, Brick Tenements usually don’t have studs. Most of these walls are comprised of an outer wall of brick, then cement, then plaster. There might be wood lath in there, but that’s not enough to hang a HDTV on.

I do a lot of HDTV installations where the homeowner has already tried to hang the TV, and the wall has some big holes in it. Or the wall mount has fallen off the wall. Not good.

I use Hilti sleeved 4 inch masonry bolts, a hammer drill and percussive masonry drill bits to mount an HDTV. So give me a call, and I’ll come over and mount your TV, OK?

Park Slope Painters: some more photos of our work

Here’s a brownstone painting job where we did something different, we painted the floors. I don’t run across this often, but apartment painting in Brooklyn has many styles. We used a high gloss white epoxy paint to paint this wood floor, and it worked out really well. Two coats are required, and it has quite an odor, as it is oil based. Plan on being away for the weekend after we paint your floor.

I also really liked the warm orange accent color the client used for this wall in the kitchen.
